Mennonite Savings Credit Union

In 1997 Mennonite Savings and Credit Union (MSCU), along with several other credit unions, formed a consortium with the purpose of reviewing and recommending a banking system.

The Challenge
To this end CGI was chosen as the recommended banking system technology provider. When CGI installed its new RFSNT banking system, MSCU needed an efficient financial solution that would integrate with the new banking system.

The Solution
While involved in the process of choosing a banking system technology, Michael Fewkes, Controller at MSCU, was also exposed to Epicor's Platinum SQL technology and its rich functionality and excellent drill down capabilities. Second Foundation recommended Epicor's Platinum SQL product and proposed a custom interface to move data from the RFSNT system into Platinum SQL.

Once the data was in the Platinum SQL system, the possible reporting was greatly expanded due to the Crystal Reports tool MSCU purchased. Crystal reporting was a natural fit for the data and allows MSCU to query directly from the SQL tables to provide professional financial reports for distribution. MSCU also had the insight to train two people on Crystal Reporting so that they can create new reports as needed.

To make a sound technology decision, Michael Fewkes reviewed other companies and software solutions before purchasing Epicor's Platinum SQL through Second Foundation. He thought other software was capable of doing the same job as Platinum SQL. However, MSCU wanted to be sure the company they chose had enough resources and a local presence, so that they could be called on regularly.

MSCU wanted to foster a long-term relationship with their consultants. "Second Foundation is a very professional organization, yet still manages to maintain a warm and friendly environment. The staff are easy to relate to, and were effective in helping us identify and formulate our needs." Also, MSCU had to be sure that Platinum SQL would interface with the banking system. It was a challenge but Platinum SQL combined with Second Foundation's custom programming solved the problem.
